Leeds College of Building 2nd year electrical installation students had an opportunity to experience what it’s like to work on a large scale refurbishment construction site in Leeds.

Castlehouse Construction, who is responsible for managing the project, organised for their subcontractor, Front Five to deliver an electrical presentation about how such a large scale refurbishment project works.

Dave Cozier, project manager at Castlehouse Construction said “We have been working together with Leeds College of Building in relation to various college engagement projects and we thought it would be useful to the students to see first hand the electrical installation within a complex refurbishment projects right in the city centre they are studying.

“We were also keen ensure they will be able to develop a broader knowledge and understanding of our industry through site visits, presentations and work experience.

“Castlehouse Construction want to proactively support the development of next generation coming into the construction industry and help to tackle the skills gap at the same time. It was fantastic to see the students show such an interest in our project.

“It’s of huge value for students to get hands on with what they are studying. We hope that seeing a project like this first hand has really engaged them in the building trade and taught them a few new skills along the way. Happy to have been able to support Leeds College of Building ” said Chris Drake, contracts manager at Castlehouse.

“For students to see a project first hand is such a valuable educational experience.  The students were able to gain experience of working in a construction environment, which will prove to be beneficial and invaluable to them.

The tour of One Embankment, Leeds was very informative and the students felt the site was welcoming and all of them said it was somewhere they would like to work! ” Samantha Bowkett, Work Placement Officer, Leeds College of Building.
